It’s the final week of fantasy basketball. Our days of scouring through the waiver wire and rummaging the newspapers and Internet for any significant NBA news are nearing a close. Yet, while only a few days remain, there’s still hope for finding that one last sleeper pick that leaves everyone else in awe of your fantasy skills.
For this final chapter of the fantasy basketball season, let us fix our eyes on DerMarr Johnson of the Denver Nuggets. In the first seven games of the month of April, DerMarr has quietly put up just over 11 points, 1.6 threes and 1.3 steals per game. Oh, by the way, he’s also shooting just shy of 60% from the floor on about seven shots per contest. Denver has clinched a playoff spot, but that doesn’t mean DerMarr is going to rest. A starter in 22 or Denver’s past 23 games, DerMarr’s minutes have steadily increased all year (2005). If you are in need of a handful of threes or steals, be sure to give DerMarr a look because this final week is all you have left to claim the championship.
Honorable Mention: This week’s honorable mention sleeper is Nazr Mohammed. A fantasy basketball household name (mainly because of its uniqueness), Nazr is now a starter on a San Antonio squad fighting to claim the number one spot in the division. San Antonio’s regular starter, Rasho Nesterovic, is projected to be out the remainder of the regular season. In his two recent starts, Nazr has averaged 14.5 points per game (on 15.5 shots per game), 14.5 rebounds per game, and 3.0 blocks per game. Though San Antonio has only has a handful of games remaining, be sure to nab Nazr if he’s available.
