How are we going to break up tiers this year?

Split guys who prefer H2H into H2H leagues and roto into roto leagues. We'll randomize the rest. If there's not enough interest for roto we'll ask for volunteers from the H2H guys to join the roto league.

I believe the consensus was that in Year 1 the 3 leagues will all be on equal footing, then in Year 2, we'll break it into an upper league (Champions League) and 2 equal lower leagues. All this will be spelled out in the rules/settings as soon as the Exec Committee can get it worked out. See the Classifieds Thread for specifics.

Im not understanding why there will be 2 H2H and one ROTO? Why not make all three leagues H2H?

I say this because the top four from the ROTO league will obviously finish in the top four because theyre good at... ROTO. So if those 4 ROTO winners are supposed to then combine with the 8 H2H winners in one H2H league... Im not seeing the harmony?

I guess what im trying to say is if the prize for finishing in the top 4 of your H2H league is to play in one 'champions H2H league'... then why would we reward ROTO winners? Why does winning a ROTO league qualify you to play against the best of the H2H league winners?

We never said 2 H2H or 2 roto. The whole process was to take a vote amongst the 32, and the scoring system with the more votes would become the scoring system for 2 of the 3 leagues. The champions league scoring system will aternate every year, so the scoring system the first year for the champions league will be decided by vote, and then the following year it will be different. That was how it was suggested by someone else in the classifieds thread. We'll discuss it though to see if we can possibly improvise upon it and make it better.

The main issue I have with the H2H format is the fact that the fantasy playoffs are such a mess. It's so easy for teams to be upset during the last few weeks of the season, so much is random and uncontrollable. I know that there are strategies for handling the fantasy playoffs, but it's always rubbed me the wrong way how the last (and for some, the most important) weeks of the fantasy season are more luck-based than any other part of the season.

This is just to explain my preference for Roto. If if it were up to me, I'd have the three first year leagues be all Roto to have a better measure of who deserves to be in the higher-tiered league for the next year. But just my personal opinion

First off, I respect the logic of jaytizy's H2H vs. Roto post. Its late and I'm tired but I'll take a stab at answering the question of why its not set up as all H2H.

Most importantly, this was envisioned as a test of OVERALL fantasy hoops skill. Those of us better at Roto will have to bone up on H2H and vice versa if we want to compete in the Champ league. Sure we can maybe hang out in our "preferred" format in years we're not in the highest league, but if we want to be considered the "best of the best" we'll need to show up with our overall game at some point.

Example, say I'm an H2H specialist, I'm like Ben Wallace, great at what I do but don't ask me to shoot a jumper or make a free throw. Say I'm a Roto specialist, now I'm like Ben Gordon, great at what I do but don't ask me to man-up on D or shoot a decent FG%. If we're trying to identify the best of the best, y'all better show up with your all-around game or else sit out a year and work on it. DON'T BE A BEN! Be like Shawn! Bring it on both ends of the court.

Its probly gonna be 2 H2H leagues in Year 1 'cause so many of y'all seem to prefer H2H. Me, I prefer the all-around challenge of Roto w/ game limits. Is this a reasonable response to the jaytizy question?

No worries. I (samo) will still do the Roto league, but we'll need another Commish for the 2nd H2H league. Shouldn't be a problem. Sorry to edit your post just wanted to test how to do it.

Thankyou Samo for your explanation. And yes its definitely reasonable.

But there's still is a hole in the logic. Example:

There is a player (Player A) that loves H2H, is good at H2H, and quite frankly hasnt participated in anything but H2H competition in their fantasy career... Now, say that player finishes top 4 and qualifies for the 'champions league'. The champions league is also H2H... and the player again does well and places highly in the next season.

How is that testing that particular players' "all around prowess"? Sounds to me this is only challenging the players who finished top 4 in their ROTO league and had to adapt to the 'H2H Champions League".
---Also I understand the Champions league will switch from H2H to ROTO and back to H2H again... But by the time 'Player A'' actualy has to play in a 'ROTO Champions League' that will be 4 years/seasons down the line.

Anyways... I may not be understanding the format but I do think it would be wise to have the FBC Octagon purely ROTO or H2H. Maybe switch back and forth from H2H and ROTO every 2 seasons (switch each time a 'Champions league' has been completed).

Regardless of what you guys decide... Im pretty stoked about the possibility of this league. I have no problem taking part in either H2H or ROTO as i consider myself well versed in both. If you fellas need any help in the setup of the league LMK.

It will be a feat in its own finding 36 active, quality managers.
