Added categories! Help me figure out the effect?

I'd really appreciate the cafe's help. My league commish has added a bunch of new categories to change things up this season. What effect do you think they'll have? It's a roto league.

What he's done is separate rebounds into OREB and DREB, add field goals made, and put in assist-to-turnover ratio.

So our categories are now FGM, PTS, FG%, FT%, 3PTM, OREB, DREB, AST, ST, BLK, TO, and A/T.

Whoah.

Seems to me some of the effects will be:
No single category is as important any more -- because there are so many of them. Having crappy FT% shooters probably hurts less because you can make up the points in more categories than before.

We're basically counting scoring twice (with field goals made)... so scorers may be a little more valuable.

Similarly, high turnovers now hurts two categories, and assists helps two cats. So PGs with low TOs (and/or a ton of assists) are a must.

There are some random OREB leaders, like Dampier and Chandler and Pachulia. They're all more valuable... as long as they don't also have bad AST/TO, or bad scoring.

Any other ideas on strategy, or on players?

:-)

I'm guessing Dirk will be #1 behind Marion.

If it's H2H this scoring system gives you a great chance to capitalize on certain stats while punting others.

the guy at the Cafe who seems to have a great grasp of how all these other categories affect player value and strategy is bokzg so hopefully he'll chime in. Breaking rebounds into offensive/defensive is generally gonna help big men and adding assist/TO ratio is generally gonna help PG's so your commish may have done a nice job of balancing things out.

I'd suggest inputting those stat categories into a site called basketballmonster.com and see which players are positively or negatively affected and adjust your draft/trade strategies accordingly. Sounds fun, good luck!

I also like the idea of tinkering a little bit with the categories.

I've added FTM and removed TO's, as I've posted elsewhere also.

FTM really changes the standard rankings.

This is the Top twelve using these cats:
