David Aldridge says the deal is almost done and now rotoworld is reporting that Webber met with the lakers GM on friday and was hoping to talk to Phil Jackson on saturday in hopes of getting a starters job.

These ESPN guys are wrong about 90 percent of the time. While he may end up in Detroit its pretty clear they weren't quite as close as Aldridge lead us to believe.

And in all reality doesn't it make more sense for him to play in LA? There is no odom for a while and even with odom back there isn't much talent surrounding Kobe, meaning more minutes for C-webb. In detroit he has to deal with Sheed, prince, nazr, davis and mcdyess. How is he going to get the minutes he wants? He doesnt want to sign with a team and play 10 minutes a night and win a title as a bench player. That isn't C-Webb's way.

In reality, i think the two teams with the best chance are the lakers and the heat.

^^^^ well if he goes to the lakers he could play 30-35 minutes or more and they still wouldn't win a championship. he'll have the best chance's in detroit or the heat. and i'm sure atleast dale davis, nazr or both will be gone by the trade deadline.

if he wants to get to the NBA finals, his best shot would be to go with Detroit or Miami. The East could be down to those 2 teams. Even if he goes to the Lakers, they would still be about the 4th/5th best team in the West and I definetly couldn't see them EVER beating San Antonio, Dallas or Phoenix in a 7 game series.

My opinion is that the winner is coming out he West this year. It's between Dallas and Phoenix. That's the way the NBA is this year. Dallas has more defense though. Phoenix has more offense.

About Webber, I would pick him up if he is available. He should be a suitable bench player in say a 10 team league or if you have injury problems.

From Rotoworld:

Chris Webber told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that he has chosen to sign with the Detroit Pistons and is flying home to spend Martin Luther King Day with family members. He also sent an email to the AP that simply stated "Detroit homie...Detroit!"
This is not surprising, although it looked like there was a chance Webber could sign with the Lakers. He should replace Nazr Mohammed in the starting lineup, giving the Pistons a front line of Webber, Tayshaun Prince and Rasheed Wallace. If you held onto Webber waiting for this news, congratulations. And if he's still somehow available in your league, grab him now. Webber clears waivers at 2 p.m. EST.

Detroit, homiiie!

He's supposed to finalize it at 2 pm EST today. 99% sure he's coming to Motown.

ESPN.com wrote:With his hometown team, Webber will have the "an integral role" with a championship contender that he was seeking, as he described it to ESPN.com last Wednesday. He's expected to start at center for the Pistons alongside Rasheed Wallace.

What kind of fantasy value would Webber carry once he becomes center-eligible? I'd have to imagine that minimums of 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists wouldn't be out of the question. Does anyone have any opinions on the fantasy implications of this? I've heard the media comparing this move to that which brought Sheed to Detroit several years ago and we all have seen how well that worked. ;-D

As a PF/C, would Webber instantly be an upgrade over someone like Al Jefferson?
