With the 3rd pick in the ninth round, the Nets are proud to select:
9.03 Mouhamed Saer Sene, Center
WEIGHT: 230 lbs
WINGSPAN: 7 foot 8½ inches
Sene! Sene! Sene! is a Senegalese professional basketball player who was drafted 10th overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 2006 NBA Draft. He is noted to have great shot-blocking potential because of his 7'8½" wingspan and drew early comparisons to Dikembe Mutombo. Sene is an explosive leaper from Senegal with an NBA-ready body who feels right at home on the defensive end of the court and runs the floor well. Surprisingly agile for his size, and with explosive leaping ability, the 21-year-old shows good timing blocking shots. Sene’s impact on defense however is not limited to shot blocking only. He is active has a good understanding of rotating defensively on call out picks, and is quick hedging and recovering on screens. His foot-work was above average as well helping him to capture some powerful dunks on offense.
On January 11, 2007, the Seattle SuperSonics assigned Sene to the NBA Development League's Idaho Stampede, where he is averaging 12.6 points (on 54% shooting), 9.3 rebounds and a solid 1.8 blocks per game. Last week, he posted a 30 point, 18 rebound, 2 block performance. Granted it is the NBDL, but with that wingspan and shot blocking potential, he will be a solid backup for Andrew Bogut…and he only began playing basketball in 2003 at the age of 16…And he speaks French!....did I mention his 7’8½’ wingspan???
Sene will provide some additional youth, defense, shot blocking and toughness to the already powerful Nets franchise.
Welcome to the Nets!!!!
