gratz for the champion

Kaman, Redd and Peja killed me this season with their total 121 missed games. Also right after trading away Dirk for Granger, the next day Granger got injured for a whole month lol. Thanks guys for not participating on my team...

at least I became the champion of the consolation playoffs O:-)

Thanks guys, great Octagon season. Rounders put much effort into weekly updates, which was appreciated! I was fortunate to draft on the Roto side 3 Top 10 BBM cumulative value guys and 6 of the top 30, which pretty much made my season. Had some adversity on the H2H side but again got fortunate with good timing on some add-drops. Sadly, we had a couple inactive teams from the very beginning in the Champion's leagues, which was surprising, but I was super-impressed with true manager/warriors like geodbear and Thrill and others who kept banging away managing actively despite having disappointing seasons.

Mad props to the sportsmanship and cameraderie in all three Octagon leagues this year. I assume we'll lose some managers so let's all keep an eye out for new talent to invite into the eight-sided circle next year. Congrats to those who held their spot or moved up. Looks like there were some VERY tight races for the 3rd spot in the First Division leagues (the margin between 3rd and 4th in the H2H league was essentially nothing), so guys who finished 4th need to be ready to step-up if managers are needed to fill out the upper league, as has been the case in previous years.

Freakin' Rounders had me sweating bullets to the very last. I figured he'd take over the 2nd spot in Roto and it'd come down to a tiebreak, which I thought I had the edge until Philly/CLE went into OT on the last night (sans my LBJ/Z) and his H2H duo of Iggy/AMiller went off. I predict his total of 4 (1st H2H, 3rd Roto) will beat all future Champions League winners as long as this league exists. He had a great, great season and all I can say is "thank goodness for Caveman Doctor!" ;-D :-°

Gonna get me some samo-budget Octo bling:

2009-2010 Offseason Discussion

Postby jphanned » Sun Apr 19, 2009 5:30 am

Rounders Block wrote:We're going to go with a 12-team First Division H2H league and a 10-team First Division Roto league this season.

Bottom 6 of the Champions league will still be replaced but the thing that will be different is the guaranteed spots to advance to the 2009 Champions league. The top 3/12 (25%) First Division H2H managers and the top 2/10 (20%) First Division Roto managers will be guaranteed spots. The 6th spot will be determined by calculating the manager's H2H record or roto point total in relation to the league's median.

Looks like we're going to expand the Champions League to 14 teams next season. Here's the list of managers who will be battling it out in the 2009-2010 Champions League:
samo*
Rounders Block*
bokzg
CavemanDoctor
thelimey
SC
ggs
TekOPP
TheJordanRulz
pugsly8422
the one
RedHopeful
schweigersaipan
jaytizy

*indicates commissioner

samo, RB, bokzg, CavemanDoctor, thelimey, and SC get automatic bids for finishing top 6 in the Champions League. ggs, TekOPP, TheJordanRulz, and pugsly get automatic bids for finishing top 3 in the First Division H2H league (TheJordanRulz and pugsly tied for the 3rd spot). the one and RedHopeful get automatic bids for finishing top 2 in the First Division ROTO league. schweigersaipan won a spot by virtue of the '6th spot' rule because he finished with the higher H2H record/roto point total in relation to the league's median than baller_crimson did. jaytizy gets a spot due to extenuating circumstances where he had to quit this season despite finishing 2nd in the '07-'08 Champions League.

TIEBREAKER: (median values = .4976, 51)
baller_crimson .5145 = +3.398%
schweigersaipan 55 = +7.273%

Offseason Discussion Agenda:
- Draft order (dual randomization vs. reversal)
- Tiebreaker process (median value vs. standard deviation)

First topic of discussion has to do with the Champions League draft order in the case we go with the dual format. Do we keep it where we randomize the draft order for each league or reverse the draft order for each league? Please try to keep the biases based on past experiences out of this discussion. I know the guys who have had early 1st round draft picks for each will tend to be in favor of randomizing the draft order while the guys who have had late 1st round picks for each will tend to be in favor of reversing it.

Keep in mind that it is indeed random so you have as much a chance as picking in the front half for both leagues as you do in the back half of both leagues. Also keep in mind that the guys in the middle (5-7) will be forced to pick from around the same position if we decide to reverse the draft order.

Discuss away. ;-D

I'm for reversing the order. While it is a random event, it still naturally puts some teams at an advantage/disadvantage at the start of the season. Their is no need for this. Let's start everyone on the most equal footing as possible and allow for good draft/trade/waiver decisions to determine the winner.
