I thought about taking him with my 2nd pick, but my team is short on bigs and I couldn't afford to not take one. Also, I don't know if I'd have patience to hold onto Ellis for months :)

I like the idea of stashing Monta in a H2H league where the playoffs are all that matters but with the way the Octagon rules are structured I'm not crazy about it.

I was about to post the same thing. This H2H league is very roto-esque and it certainly something to keep in mind, in that every single week matters. Every statistical category matters. Even if you're losing, losing 4-5 is better than losing 2-7. Not so much like that in other H2H's.

None the less, picking up Ellis this late (your first bench spot) probably won't "kill" your team by any means.

PS. when do y'all think we should start the roto draft? Obviously, when the current one finishes, we'll start it, but does anyone think we should get a bit of a head-start?

Valid points. In a roto league, obviously, he'd have gone significantly earlier. And in an H2H league with playoffs, I feel he still would have gone sooner than pick #128.

I struggled with the pick a bit but then realized that there's a good chance that whoever I draft here I will end up dropping. The other guys I was considering can certainly pan out, or could very well end up busting out. I'm fairly confident I'll get one of the 5 guys I was considering next round anyway.

It hurts a bit playing with only 12 guys, instead of 13, but either we get promising news relatively early on in the season (should have a clearer timetable about a month into the season), in which case it will have been worth it, or we get the dreaded "out for the season" or "status uncertain," at which point, I will easily drop him, and I will have wasted a 128th pick. No biggie either way.

I hope. :-o

I think its a nice call at this point. Six more weeks or so to heal before the season starts by which time you should have a timetable to work with. Assuming Monta's a 3rd/4th Round pick if healthy, not many guys would be dropping a 4th Round pick who gets hurt and is out a couple months. Most teams will be carrying at least one injured player once things get going, pretty rare to have a full team of 13 healthy players cranking strong every week.
