5.03 Tyson Chandler

When healthy Tyson Chandler is a force to be reckoned with. Athletic and defensive minded, Chandler can bring great defense while also jamming the ball when necessary from Paul. He's long and only 27 years old which gives him a number of years to dominate inside. His defensive rating and defensive win shares are phenomenal for a guy who people don't think much about. He's 14th in defensive rating amongst active players and that list includes 6-ish bigs who are so far past their prime they should all be retired by now. Also puts him above defensive guys like Artest, Smooth, and Okafor (whom he traded places with last season).

I considered briefly taking a forward here, but couldn't quite settle on one in particular who was lights out better than the rest. It really then came down to Elton Brand, who's not big or tough enough to play center for my team, Dalember, and Chandler. Dalembert is a few years older and though in general healthier than Chandler lacks the physical presence in a real game that Chandler does. Blocks as stats don't really indicate that Dally is better defensively than Chandler.

5.04 Mike Miller

I considered Miller and Vince Carter with this pick. However, two things made Miller the selection. One, he is a better three point shooter than Carter, having shot over 40% from the three point line in five of the past six seasons. Secondly, I knew he would accept his role of being the 4th option on offense and a knock down shooter on a championship caliber team. With Carter, I was concerned if he could mentally handle taking a reduced role, even if it meant getting his first ring.
