Question - if I waive a rookie I know year 2 of the contract counts but what about year 3? I assume this means that there is no need for a buyout to be excercised and hence the year does not count against the cap? Trying to decide what to do here .... like PJ III long term but not this year.
I just took a quick look at the rules and didn't really see anything addressing this particular scenario...but I would imagine if it's a 1st round pick on a three year contract, that 3rd year is a team option...which means you wouldn't have to pick it up if you didn't want to, at no cost to you...which means it's not guaranteed...which sounds to me like only this year and next year would count against your cap, at 75% and 50% respectively.
Somebody else might have better insight into this though, but that's what it looks like to me. I'd wait to hear from someone on the committee, or someone with a better grasp of the rules before I'd make that move though...just to be safe.

Hey 4ndrew! Guess who's in 1st place in the standings?
We'll see how the playoffs go, but so far so good, and I'd have to say a large part of that is due to the base team you had put together coming into the season. I've filled it out reasonably well I'd say, but having guys like Parsons and Dragic in minimum contracts has been huge (+ Durant having a ridiculously good year, obv).
Just popping in to let everyone know I haven't forgotten about my favorite league and all. I've just been very busy between work, dating, church obligations, etc, so I haven't posted hardly at all since we had free agency and the draft.
-Just a thought, maybe a discussion for the offseason as I think its all good how it stands now.
But wouldn't Lou Williams, or any player on season ending IR, be more advisable to wait until the offseason to look for a new contract to maximize his Value. Just thinking here, since we are trying to model this around the nba, it seems like if i was an agent I would advise Lou Will (who is probably still getting partial paid from his buyout) to wait until the offseason to sign when there are more dollars flowing around.
yeah, that's a fair point nsink. It does feel a bit underhanded bidding now. I'm happy to put this before the rules commitee now, as I don't think it's happened earlier this year so we wouldn't be changing anything midstream.
