I hear you. I think we are making such a mess of it that it doesn't take a Pascal to see it. Middle school math students would be horrified.

Rob's bid was invalid because he doesn't have the money to cover it (no offense ROb).

I see some people backloading contracts to older players. Why are you doing that? In general, I see a lot of front and backloading. I can understand backloading on a young player who appears to be improving, or frontloading on an old guy who is slowing down, but I am seeing it on many guys in their prime, and in the opposite direction (frontloading young guys, backloading old guys). What is the idea there?

Two things are possibly happening here regarding the older and middle aged players. Age being subjective to the NBA.

1) people are simply copying the bid ahead of them and increasing. To get the player they want. Less work with the math.

2) they believe the older players will remain strong viable options in the future.

I'm not even sure I can claim to be that good any more, and I'm still horrified at the number of incorrect bids. :-D

I vote that when this auction is over these threads are erased, never to be seen again. That way they can't be used against us. ;-D

Since we're limited by the softcap now, but by the hardcap in the future backloading contracts maximizes value, by boosting the average salary, but freeing up more money now to bid on more players. Since the hardcap is 80 million I could theoretically backload every player I bid on by 1 million and still be under the cap if I bid on 15 players.

Secondly I don't we know what we're doing quite yet. :-D
