Auction discussion

Place to talk about the auction.

We need more bidders! Interesting how Durant currently has a higher bid than CP3. Also interesting how some people so far are working on having two top 8 guys on their squad.

Depending on the cost, why not? Besides that, the Durant bid is my fault, I meant for the first bid to be 20 for 4 but it was late and I counted the average into the number of years, allowing Kal to slide in with a 20x4 bid of his own.

But yeah, this whole thing's going to go splat if only a third of the guys are bidding. We should have a better idea by later on tonight though. Lots of guys will be at work now, but hopefully we'll see some action after people start to get home.

I don't blame you for trying to grab two. I threw a bid on Kobe when he was cheaper.

The sad thing is if I do manage to get two it probably means the auction is a little bit wonky.

What are the exact rules for a frontloaded or backloaded contract? Something about 10%?

That's the trick yeah. If everyone's bidding there's no way I get two. For the sake of the league I hope that's how it works out.

From year to year, the contract can only increase/decrease by 10% of the year 1 salary.

Kal's example:
cap increases are counted based on year one salary
10M 9M 10M 11M - ok
10M 11M 12M 13M - ok
10M 11M 12.1M - not ok

I hope you end up with two. :-D

That won't leave you much money at all to get more players.

These examples are why I'm confused. The second example doesn't fit the rules, yet is labeled as ok.

10% of 10 million is 1 million, which means the highest the subsequent years can be is 11 million, yet 12 million, and 13 million are there.

Does this make sense?
