You are incorrect. This has been explained so many times. Moving from one year to the next of a multiple year salary you are allowed to increase or decrease the salary (from the previous year) by a maximum of 10% of the year 1 salary. If it were the previous year (and not year 1) it would allow exponential growth of bids instead of a flat growth which is more manageable. SO once you offer a year 1, no subsequent increase or decrease from year to year can exceed 10% of that salary.

Example:

If I offer a player 11M in year 1, my 10% is 1.1. 12.65 (11+12.1+13.2+14.3) is the maximum contract I can give to a guy with an 11M year 1 contract.

Alright then, I read it after I posted the comment. I am fine with keeping the rule like that, but am curious, isn't the NBA different, and you can increase per year?

You can also increase this per year, but the maximum amount is derived from year 1. The NBA, as far as I can tell, uses a table and I couldn't tell you how they formulate it.

10% gives you plenty of flexibility in backloading or frontloading. Outbid the other guy in year 1 if you want a player instead of creating a future mess.
