first of all i want to say that the whole situation makes me reluctant to say anything because i'm involved into the "dispute". having said that there are 2 reasons why i won't reset clocks
1) abuse. for me most important thing is to have clear rules that leave no room for any 2 gms to get into any kind of conflict. while i respect all the gms involved in this league for the way they are handling the auction so far and some of them for what i've seen from them on fbb boards and leagues that i played them in, i don't know any of them personally. maybe we are all standout guys, who are here to have good fair competition and maybe we are not, i can't guarantee that, so i don't want to leave any room for abuse. if anybody tries to cheat in any way he will be out of the league momentarily, but even removing a bad gm brings controversy to the league and i don't want any of that, especially not now in the begging, when we are just getting to know the system and each other. whenever it was possible, we bended the rules a little to give people a break, because this league is complicated and we are all beginners, but doing what you are proposing leaves possibility of undetectable abuse. someone can intentionally post bad bid and reset a clock in order to gain more time to resolve other bid and still has fall back option if he doesn't get his 1st choice. on the other hand some people will make unintentional bad bids, but might be accused of abuse by gm with last valid bid. all that is easily avoidable by keeping rules as they are

2) we have been drafting for more then 2 weeks, everybody won a player or two, most people had at least one bid invalidated. as The Thrill said, we should have pretty good idea of how things go by now and those who don't, have plenty of guys to ask. no need to give any free passes to those who make bad bids

also i agree totally with The Thrill's last post, so need to repeat any of that
my kung fu is the best

Re: Ben Gordon SITUATION

Well, my problem is that we are not perfect. In this situation it wasn't like no one saw the bid in time, or that he did not make it with plenty of time. Everyone saw it, and no one thought it was invalid until after. Fenris I'm sure thought it was valid, so he had no reason to look it over, and no one commented. He was here as well, so he would have had time to make the appropriate changes.

The point of this is that it is an auction. A player should go to the highest bidder, and since an invalid bid usually means a higher bidder is there they shouldn't be brushed off so lightly. If someone comes in and makes an obviously invalid bid then fine, they were dumb, but to lose a player for a minor mistake like this one, and the previous times it has happened to, seems dumb to me. I don't think having the average off by .01 or other minor errors deserve to have the entire bid booted.

But whatever, this isn't even about me directly, I just think the auction process would work better this way, but if I am the only one tooting this horn then I can easily move on.

Well, honestly, I have no problem with Kal taking Gordon here. It is certainly my job to make valid bids, and not anyone's in particular to double check them. On the other hand, we have a lot of people bidding in a lot of different time zones, and I also wouldn't have a problem with someone fixing a bid that contained a small error. I agree with scully19 that in principle that bidder is outbidding the previous GM with good intent.

The easiest way to go here is to leave everyone as responsible for their own bids, but for the whole league to make a concerted effort to check bids in threads they're reading anyway. I do that now and I'll always post to let someone know if they've made a mistake - it's always easier to see those mistakes in other peoples bids than it is in your own.

Kal, you go ahead and take Gordon at 4.2M with my best wishes. ;-D
