EDIT BY KAL: BAD OFFER
you can only go over 20M max in year one, remaining years go at 20M. also you can't offer 4 year contract if you go over 20M

24.67M (28+22+24)

Re: Important! All you need to know for the auction

Where is this question addressed?

If you look at my Chris Paul offer, it averages 24.67. However, I would think an offer of (28+22+24+24) would trump mine even though it only averages 24.50. It has that 4th year element that would be a larger longer-term commitment than what I offered. If someone offered the (28+22+24+24) scenario, does that trump (override) my offer?

Lastly, I just want to verify, the $28M hits year one cap, right? The average commitment doesn't hit the cap (meaning it's not 24.67 that is hitting my year one cap)?

Thanks!

You can't go over 20M at all except in year one. So once the bid for a FA is over 20M it't only the first year that can go up, the number of years you can offer go down once you go over 20M too. Check the league guidlines for more info.

Ah, thank you. My bad. I guess I won't delete my offer and I'll let Kalelen do whatever he wishes to do with it.

But I guess that still leaves the open question about whether a longer-term commitment trumps a shorter-term commitment (?)

28+20+20

is not as good of an offer as...

28+20+20+20 ????

even though the shorter-term offer is a higher average (22.67 vs 22.00)? or is that discussed in the rules as well and I'm just overlooking it (like I apparently also overlooked the $20M limit on the out years) ? O:-)

Thanks for the help! ;-D

Average does trump length, but contracts between 20M and 30M can only be for years, and once the bid for the first year gets over 30 the contract can only be 2 years long.

-when a free agent receives more then one contract offer, he is awarded to a team based on next 3 criteria
1) he is awarded to a team that offers the highest average salary
2) if he receives two or more offers with same average salaries, he is awarded to team depending on offered contract length
-if the average salary is between 25% and 100% of the maximum he is awarded to a team that offers the longest contract
-if the average salary is lower then 25% of the maximum he is awarded to a team that offers the shortest contract
3) not relevant during the auction

Max contract is 20 million.

If you offer 10 to 20 million, contract must be 2-4 years long
If you offer 5 to 9.75 million, contract must be 1-3 years long
If you offer less than 5 million, contract is 1-2 years long

In this auction, for year 1 only, you can offer more than the maximum.
Example: Offer Chris Paul 3 year offer of 30 million 1st year, 20 million 2nd year, 20 million 3rd year. Average 23.3 million.

If you offer 20.25 to 30 million for year 1, contract is 3 years long
If you offer 30.25 to 40 million for year 1, contract is 2 years long
If you offer 40.25+ million, contract is 1 year long
my kung fu is the best
