How many players at a time up for bidding? How long will the bidding go on before final contracts are awarded? Will players who have not been assigned contracts stay in the pool when the next group of players is brought in?
I feel like the time limit should have something to do with when the last bid was put in, ie, 48 hours from when the last bid is made on a certain player the contract is signed. Having a time limit for the whole group brought in would cause problems with people sneaking in bids no one could counter. That said, doing it by individual makes the auction process that much more difficult.
Another option would be to have say 20 players at a time up for auction. Whenever a contract is signed (48 hours without a higher bid), a new player is brought into the auction pool? (using a standard rankings)
This is going to take awhile and require very active participation.
Edit: Two other things: 1. It would be good to have official rules in the draft room somewhere 2. Do we have the numbers set for max salary, hard and soft caps?
minimum increases and decreases in negotiations and bidding: 250k
minimum team salary during the season: 44M
minimum team salary during the off-season: 10M
Another question: In what ways will teams be allowed to exceed the soft cap during this first season? The only ways I can see right now would be through trades, the bi-annual exception, the minimum salary exception or the disabled player exception. MLE would be disqualified because it requires a team to be over the salary cap coming into the off-season, rookie exception is disqualified because we are signing rookies to normal contracts to start the league (otherwise everyone would want these cheap contracts and no fair rookie draft order is possible), Bird rights (or any re-signing rights) don't apply because the league isn't old enough.
here's what i was thinking: we start the auction with 5 players in the pool (top 5 in cafe mock draft, i think cafe mock is better to use then bbm rankings because it factors in off-season). gms bid on them. after 24h has passed since the last bid on a player is submitted he is awarded to the team that made the last (and thus highest) bid and the next player is thrown into pool. that way we have 5 players in the pool at all times. each player will get his own thread for bidding. after bidding is over player's thread will be locked
we could make it more then 5 at a time, but i think that 5 is the best number. more then that and we risk creating a chaos, less then that and things might get too slow also we could make it 48h in stead of 24h, but i think that 48h would make the auction go too slow. we would all have to check in more frequently then usually during the auction, but i don't think that it should be a problem for this group of gms when a player is awarded to a team any gm can start a new thread for the next player in line and start bidding. i will lock the awarded player's thread when next i log on. also i'll update a thread with team salaries

you are partially correct. disabled player exception can not come into play before 2nd season because player needs to miss minimum of 123 games. only trades and min salaries for teams at the cap are possible scenarios. bi-annual exception and mle will probably be there as well, but that's not final yet. btw teams that are under soft cap limit (65M), but over 60M will get an exception worth 5M

Won't this create a huge advantage for anyone who waits up until the last 24 hours to place his vote?
