Not only do the 7 day contracts not make sense, but I have some additiuonal problems with how other contracts are rationalized, specifically regarding which contract 'beats' another. I agree that it's ridiculous that a bare min two or three year deal trumps a one year deal. There simply aren't a lot of players who'd actually take a deal like that. I think that contract length, as a % multiplier to contract value, should probably only apply after a certain salary threshhold. Maybe something in the 2-3M range?

In order to keep things simple as possible, what if we said that the contract length only applies in the equation if you are bidding at least 25% of the max. That would mean players would shoot for the highest possible salary in offers under 5 million.

Or we could add these categories:

offers smaller than 12.5% of max-1 year(up to 2.5 mil)
12.5%-25% of max-1 or 2 years

I have no problem with contracts under 12.5% being for two years, but I'd be happy making that the cap, and going to three years on offers of 12.5%-50%, with a fourth year available for anything from 50%-100%. Which is more or less what we have now except ....

I also think we might be well served to make part of every contract for our league a team option. I was thinking that the last year of 2 and 3 year deals should always be a team option, and perhaps the last two years of a four year deal (EDIT - although, perhaps not, as things turn out). That ought to prevent teams getting buried under too much bad salary. It also probably means that contract length as a % multiplier needs to be a smaller bonus, especially for those 4 year deals. In fact, it shouldn't matter at all for 50%+ because the way I have it here there's absolutely no reason not to offer them 4 years. Hmm...

Maybe all we need to do a slap a flat 10% bonus (for tie break purposes only) on 3 and 4 year contracts when compared to 2 year deals. Or maybe something like 8% and 16% for 3 and 4 year deals respectively if we go with just one option year for each). Other than that perhaps we can do away with that whole idea. The blind waiver system ought to solve most of the tie break issues anyway.

Yeah, hit away guys, we'll resort to the 3 man inactive list if they don't come through.

I don't like weekly lineups, so I would vote no there. I like the idea of inactive roster slots and a games limit (if Yahoo makes it available.

I agree, amnesty should be tried before blowing everything up.
