Absolutely...just wanted to make sure your post wasn't patronizing Nene. O:-)

Re: I'm out of this league

Postby The Thrill » Wed Sep 02, 2009 4:31 pm

So, I'm going to be fair to the new manager. Nene posted he is done with this league at 9:58pm CST yesterday. I didn't win Chris Paul until 7:30(ish)am CST this morning. In fairness to the replacement manager, do they have an opportunity to bid on CP or any others that closed out until we locked the bidding this morning?

There appears to be a disconnect period from which Nene quit, to which a few auctions closed. I'm happy to take Chris Paul :-) , but I'm more interested in maintaining integrity of the bidding process at the time we lost a member. I think it would be fair.

That said, someone would be nuts to outbid me on CP3. I'm clearly going to get my man. ;-)

I don't like the idea of pausing the bidding at all.

I have no players cuz people have bid right before the 24 hour period was up- Jefferson and then Stoudamire. So I bid again on Stoudamire and the bidding is paused right before I finally would get a player? It is a lot easier to plan who to bid on if you have a player or 2 so you know how to shape your team. If the bidding is paused now it is right before I finally get a player or 2- Stoudamire and Calderon. I think it affects me more than anyone. Its also kind of arbitrary. It could've been paused right after he said he was quitting. Several guys got players since then.

I realize this is a problem. But then your going to restart another 24 hours on those 2 guys.Thats not good

I don't think you understand the rules correctly. A player is won when no one has placed a bid for 24 hours.

Jefferson for example:

My winning bid was Mon Aug 31, 2009 at 1:26 pm

Your bid (and also the bid before the winning bid) was Sun Aug 30, 2009 11:01 pm

In order to win Al Jefferson, all you would need to do is outbid me 24 hours from 1:26 PM on Monday, meaning you had until Tuesday at 1:26 PM to place a higher bid.

I placed my winning bid with 8.5 hours still on your bids 24 hour clock.

Does this all make sense? Maybe I'm confused. I don't get how its worse for you.

He has bids on 2 players where the 24 hour clock is going to be reset.

Hmmm. I guess I would be a little annoyed too, but there are others in similar situations. Plus if anyone is going to be annoyed, its probably whoever the new replacement is going to be, who has to inherit a team instead of starting out from scratch.

Not sure there's a great answer. I definitely don't want to start over again.

I understand the rules entirely.

My point is that I have put a lot of time and effort into the bids and strategy.. I had no problem with what happened with Jefferson- it was part of the game. It just meant that I had put my efforts for naught. So I went for Amare he too was bid again on before I could get him. So I bid on him again. Then less than 2 hours before I get him and finally get my first player the draft will be stopped. Also Calderon would've been mine shortly. I would've gotten 2 of the next 3 players avalible in a very short period of time if no one else bid. Also some guys had just been awarded players in the last hours since Nene said he was leaving. Why do they get their players and I not only don't get mine it is stated the 24 hour period will start all over again on the guys I was about to get? Not only am I left with no one- it hinders me bidding on other guys since I have no clue as to my roster composition. Its just arbitrary- thats all.

How is this for a possible solution? Call the new player "16". While we search for someone we take turns bidding for a player for "16". For example KalElen bids for 16 until he gets his first player. Then Red till he gets his 2nd player. etc. The minute we find someone they take over the bidding for their team. We've done that in my Fantasy Football league and it works good. The rest of the owners who are honorable and play fair as this group seems to put a good faith efort into building this unknown new owner a team until we have one. Plus we don't have to stop the bidding for who knows who long otherwise.

In essence coffeeman, you're upset because you were very close to winning a couple of guys and now the possibility of being outbid troubles you. }:-)

Listen, we've all put in time/effort in checking/bidding/etc here. This is Kal's baby so we'll see how he wants to move forward. I agree that the two bids this morning should be re-opened IF nene is replaced. Beyond that, just going to ask you for your patience as we're all in the same boat. :-/

Eh, I don't know. I don't think it sounds unreasonable (or really all that difficult) to state, Nene stopped bidding (stopped becoming a manager) effective this time (9:50something CST). Whatever time remains (of 24 hours) left on players that were being bid on at that point time, the clock begins once we find our 16th replacement.

So, Chris Paul (a player I "won" perhaps, maybe, I don't know) was bid on at 7:30ish something am CST on Tuesday morning. So, that means 14 hours and 20 minutes had passed since the most valid potentially winning bid. That means, once we find our replacement, we select a start time, and managers have 9 hours and 40 minutes from that time to bid on Chris Paul or he's mine.

I guess I don't find that scenario unfair or unreasonable. I don't know. Maybe not. :-° O:-)
