Not wanting too be a nuisance, but wouldn't that make the Joe Johnson / Channing Frye trade illegal?

100% of Frye's 6M + 5M is 11M
150% of Frye's 6M is 9M.

Johnson's contract is 11.5M, more than either of the above, especially the 9M which is the lesser & therefore the one to use.

Am I misunderstanding how to apply the maths?

when trading:

1. No team goes over the salary cap as a result of the trade.
2. A team does not acquire more than the lesser of 150% plus 0.01M, or 100% plus 5M of the salaries they trade away.

You don't get to choose which measure you use; you must take the smaller number of the two. ;-D

Sorry again about the misinterpretation. don't know why I misinterpreted it either. I don't think we have to scrap it though, we could modify the way it reads to say something similar to this:

3. If both teams are under the cap after making the trade, the percentages need not apply.

I'm confused by this and I think I'm on the same page as dasein. I didn't think I could trade picks or random players with minimum salaries for players with huge salaries. I thought the NBA worked in that you had to have pseudo matching salaries going back and forth in trades and I thought thats how we were working it as well until some of the other deals had been made.

That's why picks themselves carry no money, but players drafted do. Too give some wiggle room when dealing. All this being said, the last few trades completed do not follow the rules as I thought were set forth, which is why I mentioned the Lee thing.
