In a surprising turnabout, the Los Angeles Lakers hired Mike D'Antoni as coach late Sunday, passing on another reunion with Phil Jackson, D'Antoni's agent told Yahoo! Sports.

Thoughts on this relatively surprising news based on all the news surrounding Phil Jackson?

I liked that I was reading my tweets from rotoworld this morning and it was:

Phil Jackson will sign this morning.

Followed by:

Mike D'Antoni named Lakers coach.

That whole Buss/Jackson relationship seems so dysfunctional. He's married into the family and yet the communication between them is nonexistent. The D'antoni reign will at least be interesting whatever happens. Can't envision this as an SSOL team. And I'm wondering how this defense improves without changing personnel. I got the impression that Nash wasn't enthused at a higher pace offense at his age but that could've just been smoke.
