In that case I would like to take it back, not saving as much as I was hoping so might as well keep him on the team for now, I can always waive him later if I need that salary to sign a free agent right. Sorry, still tryijg to learn the rules, disregard this request, thanks.

That's exactly correct. In this case there's no reason to waive him now vs when you might actually need to in the future. ;-D

I guess I should point out the obvious that I'm picking up the option on Kyrie Irving, and also not picking up the option on Derrick Williams.

I'm buying out Marcin Gortat. Cost of his buyout: 4.8M (.50 x 9.6M)

I think you'd owe 25% of his 8.4M salary for next season as well.

Nope, I checked this. It was a 4 year contract so he can do the 3rd year at 50%.

I always read the rule as 50% of the 3rd year AND 25% of the final year on a 4 year contract, but it makes more sense to buy out at just 50% of the third year on a four deal now that I think about it.

I've always felt it was as I did it...I just wasn't sure I had Gortat on a four year deal. If he had been on a three year deal, I would have not been able to buy him out until next season (the way I'm understanding the rule). It has to be a four year deal in order for him to be eligible for the 3rd year buyout.

And I meant to include that info in my original post somehow ("3rd year buyout" or something to that effect)...I just got into a hurry as I had to step out that day, and forgot to mention that detail. O:-)

No, it was never intended as that. I think ST is the first to actually use this rule, which is maybe why it jumped out. I'm almost certain he won't be the last this offseason thou }:-)

Sounds good. So Tex's bid was definitely for 4 years:

My understanding is that the final 2 years would be at 25%. I believe you guys came to that conclusion as well but just putting that in there. I'll leave him on the roster for now until we know for sure the deal.
